Event description

This workshop is for parents and carers of young people with additional needs.

Jonathan Rourke from Skylarks will be presenting, alongside Alka Tripathi from Ruils.

During the session he will discuss the responsibilities on the nursery, school or college when supporting children or young people with SEND:

  • What should a school be providing to support my child?

  • How does the Equalities act provide support for children and young people?

  • What should the setting be telling me/ the young person?

  • What can I do if i'm not happy with a setting and what they are providing?

and how to make a parental request for an EHCP:

  • What needs to be included in a parental application for an EHCP

  • What is the legal test that the Local Authority will use to decide if they are willing to carry out an assessment.

  • What decisions will the Local Authority make.

  • Working with a Setting to make sure they are able to help with the request.

  • Things to consider when writing an application either by letter or using a local authorities forms.

There will be time for Q&As following the presentation.
