Deaf Unity

Deaf Unity exists to empower deaf people and to push for and enable change at three pivotal transition points: moving on from school to further studies/work; entering the workforce; and progression in the workplace. We promote Deaf Awareness and provide British Sign Language courses to help break down barriers.

Our Deaf Lives project, funded by Heathrow Community Trust, is a community-based project which focuses on strengthening the deaf community in West London. It is a monthly event where deaf people can socialise, meet new people and share experiences and concerns in a relaxed environment. The steering group identifies topics of interest and invites guests to present directly to attendees.

We offer British Sign Language training including:

• 1 hour taster session

• Introduction to British Sign Language

• British Sign Language Level 1 - Signature accredited.

• British Sign Language Level 2 - Signature accredited.

• British Sign Language Level 3 - Signature accredited.

• British Sign Language Level 4 - Signature accredited.

• British Sign Language Level 6 - Signature accredited.

We also run a regular meet-up for deaf and hearing people of all sign language levels. The ‘British Sign Language Cafe’ is a great opportunity to make new friends and practice sign language informally.

Translation Service - Do you want your website or content to be translated into British Sign Language with subtitling, so that you can include deaf and hard of hearing people in your messaging? Get in touch to discuss what you need.

We also run Deaf Awareness training which can be tailored to your school, work place or area of interest. If you would like to make a group booking, let us know.
