About Our Barn
Our Barn is designed as a bridge between formal education and adult life for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. We provide a welcoming meeting place for 16–35 year olds to connect, share experiences and grow in a setting that feels less formal than school or college, while still offering structure, guidance and support.
We deliver engaging, interest-led activities that help our members develop confidence, independence and social skills — both individually and as part of a group. Alongside fun and creative sessions, young people can access opportunities that build employability and practical life skills, supporting their journey into adulthood.
Our aim is to create a service that young people genuinely want to attend — delivered by high-quality, energetic staff who ensure activities are safe, meaningful and age-appropriate.
Our Barn was originally founded in 2012 at Redlees Play Centre, evolving in response to parents and carers who were seeking meaningful, purposeful opportunities for their older children as they prepared to leave school and transition into adult life.
We have since expanded our provision to include a gardening and horticulture project at our base in Blondin Park Community Pavilion. Here, members contribute to the community garden while developing practical skills that support independence and pathways into work.
We also deliver Our Futures, a targeted programme for young adults up to the age of 35 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), offering tailored support to help them move towards positive next steps.
