What is this service?

Nature conservation

The green spaces on our doorsteps across south and west London are comprised of a rich mosaic of ecosystems and habitats. These are home to numerous species of animal, insect, plant, aquatic and other wildlife, flora and fauna.

Biodiversity and improving and managing spaces for wildlife is at the heart of what we do; from creating wildflower meadows and improving nature reserves to creating bug hotels.

To do this we look to engage residents and communities to design and implement projects that make a difference to their local area. Through connection, consultation, communication and participation we explore how communities want to see spaces improved and join this together to support wildlife and communities in the most effective way.

Our volunteer supervisor programme offers training and experience to a group of individuals starting their journey in the conservation field.

Urban greening

We engage and empower communities to restore and enhance green and urban spaces to benefit nature, wildlife and people.  We are currently working to enhance many small spaces across south and west London and improve nature corridors.

Habitats & Heritage, supported by partners and local communities, is improving a multitude of small spaces to enhance their value for nature, acting as steppingstones and refuge sites between larger green spaces and making more connected highways for wildlife.

For more information on our urban greening work visit our Green Hubs project page

Friends of Parks groups

Friends of Parks groups are independent voluntary groups set up at community level that work in partnership with the local authority to enhance, improve and promote parks. Inclusive and diverse groups that represent all aspects of the community achieve greater credibility, can help solve problems, increase awareness, and bring in funding for improvements and initiatives not available to the local authority.

If you are looking to set up a new project, expand and grow an existing one, network, fundraise or troubleshoot issues then talk to us about how we can help.

We provide extensive support to environmental groups in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and run the quarterly Hounslow Friends of Parks’ Groups Forum. We also work with groups in Ealing and Kingston. To find a group near you see our Partners & groups page.
