To promote the values of equality, citizenship, leadership and volunteering among the younger generation
Much of our volunteering takes place in the community, with our Reach out befriending and Mentoring support volunteers and in our specialist autism groups. Volunteering also makes a significant contribution through essential support roles of our office.

We are keen to recruit volunteer befrienders/ mentors who can support young autistic people in your local area. In most cases, befriending happens at the young person's home and in their local area.
**How: **
Volunteers are matched with a young person near where they live. You then meet with them on a regular basis for around 2 hours a week for around 6 months (preferably).
However please do talk to us about what you can offer as we aim to be flexible. Each befriending opportunity is unique and depends on the young person you would be befriending. Your support will be make such a positive difference whilst being fun and rewarding. To become a befriender you will need to be 18 or nearing 18 when you start your induction.
You don’t need direct experience of autism to get involved. We provide you with induction training, resources, out of pocket expenses and ongoing support. At the end of your volunteering, we can happily provide references and certificates of training and experience. You need to have a current DBS on the update service and if not we can apply for one for you and reference contact details
Volunteering is one of the best ways to help out in your community !
