What is this service?

About our counselling service

We are proud to be the only charity offering specialist counselling for individuals who have been affected by missing. Our counselling is suitable for children (11+) and adults and is free and confidential.

Counselling takes place via telephone or video call, so you don’t need to go to an office to have a session. All you need is a private space to talk at a time that suits you. We can talk through the process with you, so if you feeling unsure if counselling can help you, why not get in touch and have a conversation about it.

How it works

Our counselling is via telephone or video call; which means you don’t have to travel to a particular location to have a session. All you need is a private space to talk, at a time that suits you. We can talk through the process with you, so if you’re feeling unsure if counselling can help you, why not get in touch and have a conversation about it.

Ready to give counselling a go?

  1. Please complete our online referral form

  2. We will read through the referral, and get back to you within 2 weeks. If it’s appropriate we will arrange a time for an assessment.

  3. On the first occasion you or your child speak to a counsellor they will describe how the counselling sessions work, you’ll agree the time and day the sessions will take place.

  4. An additional step for parents/ guardians of a young person wanting to receive counselling we are always able to offer conversations between them and the counsellor ahead of the sessions to ease everyone into the process. We have experience of this really helping everyone involved feel confident about the service.

How it helps

Counselling can help you to reflect on your missing experience, wherever you are in your journey. We are able to provide a confidential space in which you, or someone you care for, can talk to an experienced and knowledgeable professional about how you’re feeling and help you gain insight which could help you. Counselling can help with among other things:

  • Living with missing and ambiguous loss

  • Depression

  • Isolation

  • Anxiety

  • Improving relationships

  • Loss

  • Finding ways to talk to people in your life about your missing loved one

  • Coping with emotions

  • Stress

Children and siblings of missing

Our counselling service is available for all family members and close friends who are missing someone. We know that for children living in the home when someone goes missing, it is very hard for them and they often could do with someone to talk to.

If you would like some support for a child and want to see if counselling could help them, please have a talk with them and if you both think that it would be good to find out more. Please use the referral form. We can get in touch and talk it through with you both.
