West London Breeze organises bicycle rides for women, led by trained Breeze Champions. Rides take place on weekdays and weekends, start from Ealing, Brentford and surrounding areas, and are free. Women of all levels of cycling ability and confidence are welcome. Please see below some of the cycle routes.
A shorter figure-of-eight-ride using quiet back roads from Ealing via Brentford, Syon Park and Isleworth to reach the centre of Twickenham. We might stop for refreshments at one of the cafes on Church Street, or we might prefer to have a look at the extravagant sculptures in the fountains in York Gardens and ride on alongside the river to the Stables Café in Orleans Gardens for our refreshments. Our return route continues along the riverside, past Marble Hill Park, and back to Brentford. We will turn onto the canal towpath for a short distance, then cross the footbridge into Boston Manor Park and return to Ealing.
We will start off cycling inside Southall Park, and when we are ready, we can take quiet residential roads, cycle paths and canal towpaths to get to Gunnersbury Park for 1pm for a picnic with many other groups of Breeze riders coming from many parts of London to celebrate Breeze being 10 years old
This ride is for women who have not ridden a bicycle for years, or have just learned and want to practice, or only ride very occasionally and want to become more confident. We will start off cycling inside the manor house grounds, and as we become more confident, we can cycle in the quiet residential streets together. When we are ready, we can choose where to go from a range of places nearby such as Hanwell Zoo, Osterley Park, the Hillingdon Cycle track and Northolt Fields.
Once we feel comfortable cycling in the grounds we will be going out on nearby quieter roads. and cycle paths. We will also learn how to cycle on other roads, but if the traffic is too much, we can always get off our bikes and walk with them across busy junctions.
It's a friendly group and like minded cyclist. I've enjoyed the rides so far and I'm building up my strength.
