What is this service?

Creative therapy for young people refers to a range of therapeutic approaches that uses creative expression as a way to help young people process emotions, develop self-awareness, and improve their mental wellbeing. It's especially useful for young people who may struggle to express themselves through words alone.

Creative therapy is often a sensory experience, which is one of the reasons it's so effective for young people, it allows them to take ownership of creating a safe space. Especially those with neurodivergence, trauma, or communication difficulties often process the world through their senses before they can verbalise feelings. Creative therapy taps into this by:

  • Helping regulate the nervous system

  • Making therapy more accessible and engaging

  • Allowing non-verbal expression through sensory play and creativity

Some common themes that can be explored:

  • Emotional Awareness & Regulation

  • Identity & Self-Expression

  • Relationships & Attachment

  • Masculinity or Femininity

  • Trauma & Loss

  • Anxiety & Stress

  • School, Bullying, and Social Pressure

  • Communication & Expression
