What is this service?
SEEN (formerly Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre) was founded in 1999, to support women and their partners facing the trauma of an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy loss. We became a charity in 2005. Based in Twickenham we work in the boroughs of Richmond, Hounslow and Kingston.
We also run the I AM Project in prisons and the community, helping individual explore health relationships and their own personal strengths.
As an independent pregnancy centre we are committed to offering professional standards of non-judgemental care and support to people having to decide whether to continue with a pregnancy. We adhere to the ethical framework for good practice for counselling and psychotherapy as laid down by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
We aim to empower individuals to work through their situation by providing accurate information and emotional and practical support. We also seek to build their self-esteem and confidence.
Respect for the client is central to our values and we take our lead from the client in terms of the issues they want to explore e.g. if this includes spiritual issues, we aim to help our clients explore what is important to them. We train our listeners and educators to reflect our ethos and work in a way that is sensitive and appropriate to the client’s culture and beliefs. Our service has been valuable to people from any or no faith, and from many different cultures.
What we offer?
- Listening: We offer a 10-step support program for women and men struggling with pregnancy loss or a termination where you can talk one to one with one of our listeners. The sessions can be offered face to face, on the phone or online.
- Befriending: We provide support to women during pregnancy and for the first year after birth. Our support is tailored to meet the individual needs of each woman.
- For Men: Finding out that your partner is unexpectedly pregnant is a huge shock. We would like to support you in handling your emotions, reactions and decision-making, in what can be a highly stressful situation.
- Family And Friends: Finding out that your daughter, sister or friend is unexpectedly pregnant can be a huge shock. It is likely to be a very emotional situation for both of you, and can be very difficult to handle if she is turning to you for advice.
- Prisons and in the Community: The ‘I Am Project’ is an educational course that we run for women in prison. The course aims to build self-esteem through the creative process and to equip women to make healthy relationship choices.
