Linked Minds was set up to support clients who are socially isolated because of a diagnosed mental health problem.
A trained befriender will support clients for 1-2 hours each week for a year. When they first meet they will discuss what they want to achieve and they will work towards this together.
Volunteers receive specialist mental health awareness training for this project, and many volunteers are students studying Counselling or Psychotherapy courses.
The aims of this project are:
To offer social and emotional support
To provide support to regain confidence to go out and meet others.
In order to ensure we are supporting those who need the service the most, to be eligible you must:
Live within the Hounslow or Ealing boroughs
Live alone
Be experiencing loneliness
Have a diagnosed mental health problem
Be ready to meet up with your volunteer regularly
Everyone who is referred to Linked Minds will be assessed against the eligibility criteria and also on an individual basis. We may not always be able to provide support if the clients needs are too high, particularly if there has been a recent suicide attempt, they are self-harming, or there is a current addiction. This is because we are not a front-line service and the work is done by volunteers. We will always inform the referrer of the reasons for our decision**.**
It's someone to talk to who does not judge me and who I can trust.
